Meet the Removable Brain-Computer Implant

While some wearable gadgets try to read brainwaves, achieving accuracy requires going to the source. Implanting a brain-computer interface, which converts brain signals directly into control inputs for digital devices, is often considered a permanent procedure. The devices involved are typically so difficult or impractical to remove that it’s better to just leave them in place for the remainder of a patient’s life and handle any future upgrades at the software level.

Precision Neuroscience thinks there’s another way.

We visited the company’s headquarters in New York to get a look at its brain-computer interface, which is designed to sit on the brain’s surface rather than be implanted inside it, and has been successfully removed from the skulls of people who have tried it.

Like other brain-computer implants we’ve covered, Precision Neuroscience’s primary goal at this time is to help people living with paralysis and other motor issues regain independence by offering a new way to control their digital devices. To see our tour of the facility and an in-depth look at Precision Neuroscience’s removable brain implant, check out the video in this article.
