Human patient with Neuralink brain chip gets reply from Elon Musk after he says: I am connected to mine from the second I wake up to the second I go to sleep, it has become an …

Elon Musk has replied to a Neuralink patient's post in which he shared his experience after receiving the brain implant. In a post shared on the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), Jake Schneider, who has received Neuralink's brain implant, shared how the technology has changed his daily life.

Replying to Schneider's post, Musk wrote: "Neuralink will help millions of people."Schneider, who is living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), said the Neuralink implant has become an extension of his body and a lifeline. He explained that he remains connected to the device from the moment he wakes up until he goes to sleep, adding that it has helped him regain some independence that the progressive neurological condition has taken away."I am connected to mine from the second I wake up to the second I go to sleep. It's become an extension of my body and a lifeline that has made me feel more human. Neuralink has given me some of the independence that ALS has stolen from me," Schneider wrote in his post.

Neuralink patient shares experience with brain implant

ALS is a progressive neurological disease that affects nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscle movements. As the condition advances, patients can lose the ability to walk, speak and perform everyday activities independently.

Neuralink's brain-computer interface (BCI) technology is designed to interpret neural signals and allow users to control compatible digital devices through their thoughts. For people who have lost the ability to use their limbs, the technology could provide another way to interact with computers and other connected devices.

Neuralink crosses 50,000 hours of brain recording data

Schneider’s experience came as a reply to a post shared by Neura Pod that said Neuralink had recorded more than 50,000 hours of brain activity data.

According to the post, the company's first human participant, identified as @ModdedQuad, accounted for nearly 10,000 hours of recordings.“Neuralink has logged over 50,000 hours of brain recording data. The very first patient (@ModdedQuad) accounts for nearly 10,000 of them. Imagine what happens as this brain data scales to billions of hours of detailed brain data. Neuralink will have a data pipeline that no other company will have,” the Neura Pod post read.Ryan Tanaka of Neura Pod said the total was expected to grow faster than anticipated. The milestone points to the volume of data being collected as Neuralink continues to study how its implants work over extended periods.“This number will balloon way faster that people expect,” Tanaka noted.Long-term data can help researchers understand the performance and reliability of brain-computer interfaces, although recording hours alone do not establish how effective or safe the technology is for different patients.Neuralink's progress is being closely watched as researchers explore ways to use brain-computer interfaces to help people with paralysis and other conditions that affect movement. For patients such as Schneider, the technology's potential lies in whether it can provide practical assistance with everyday tasks and improve their ability to interact with the world.
