OpenAI has invested in a startup that plans to teach a brain implant to detect cancer and inhibit tumor growth using electrical pulses

OpenAI has invested in a startup called Coherence Neuro, which is developing a brain implant to fight cancer. The device uses artificial intelligence to detect when a tumor starts to grow and respond with electrical impulses. The first human trials have already taken place.
This is reported by WIRED.
The developers claim to have already learned to recognize electrical signals associated with changes in tumors in animals. They can be used to determine whether the tumor is growing, shrinking or disappearing, and whether it has reappeared.
The company also tested its implant on three patients in Australia over the summer. During brain tumor removal surgeries, the device was inserted for about half an hour to test its ability to record electrical signals, then removed.
This was a preliminary test of the implant's safety and ability to record brain signals. The company has not yet released specific results. Researchers are now testing the device on seven other patients, also testing whether it can deliver electrical impulses.
Over time, the startup plans to move to longer trials on patients with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Previously, dev.ua wrote that OpenAI invested $250 million in Sam Altman's startup Merge Labs, which is developing a brain-computer interface. Unlike Elon Musk's Neuralink, the startup plans to read brain signals without installing implants, in particular using ultrasound.
